Special Events

2008 Special Events Announced:

Pre-Conference Trip to the City:

For the first time, we will offer an afternoon trip into the city as a pre-conference program.  This excursion will occur on Thursday, April 10th. The trip includes bus reservations to and from the city and a tour of Alcatraz.  A snack will also be provided as part of the trip.  Buses will leave the hotel no later than 11:45am and return at 6:00pm.  Students will be required to be on board at 11:30am. Pre-registration for the bus trip is required and will cost $58/person. This trip is limited to the first 50 people who sign up.

WRGA Service Trip :

Service to others is a shared core value of our fraternities and sororities. To honor this value, we have included a Service Project opportunity as an exciting new addition to the 2008 WRGA Leadership Conference! Participants will have the opportunity to impact the surrounding Berkeley/Burlingame community through service. The day will begin with a tour of the University of California-Berkeley campus by current Greek students from Berkeley. After a lunch at a local restaurant, participants will be bussed to two service locations-Chaparral House, where volunteers will participate in an outdoor beautification project, and the Women’s Daytime Drop In Center, where volunteers will be assembling care packages. The day will conclude with a debriefing session where participants will have a chance to share their thoughts about the day.

Friday Night Bus Trip to City:

This year we will have two different options for councils to choose from for their Night on the Town!  Options will include visiting Fisherman’s Wharf, or attending a baseball game at AT&T Stadium, home of the San Francisco Giants!

Trip to Fisherman’s Wharf Pier 39

Buses to the Wharf will depart at 6:00pm. from the hotel and return no later than 11pm. Pre-registration for the bus trip will be available at $25/person.

Giants Baseball Game:

On Friday April 11th, the Giants will face off against the St. Louis Cardinals. The trip to the Giants baseball game will include reserved outfield tickets and transportation for $38/person. The buses to the game will depart at 6pm and return at 11:30pm.

Ask the Expert:

This is your chance to speak to “Experts” (campus Greek Advisors or Inter/National representatives) about a specific issue facing your council or campus; they will be able to provide you feedback and suggestions to address the issues you present. This program will take place on Friday, April 11th from 2-5pm.  In order to maximize the outcome of this program, on- site registration is required. Please ask at check-in to register for this program.

The following individuals have volunteered to serve as “Experts” this year:

Up ‘til Dawn:

Fight the yawn! - Stay awake to cure childhood cancer!  That's the motto of Up 'til Dawn, the coolest philanthropic program to hit college campuses across the nation. This student-led, student-run fund-raiser is hosted by more than 230 campuses nationwide. Up 'til Dawn unites students, staff and their local communities with a goal to help the children of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. On most college campuses Greek students are leading this effort. Stop by the WRGA Leadership Conference Up 'til Dawn booth to learn more about this awesome program. You can take part and join the fun in a variety of games and late night events that are sure to keep you entertained.  Experiencing this event will give you a great idea of what Up 'til Dawn is all about and how you can bring it back to your campus.

Silent Auction:

Once again the WRGA Leadership Conference will host a Silent Auction.   We encourage your delegation or organization to consider bringing a tax-deductible item; you don’t want to be the only delegation or organization not to participate in our 3rd Annual Silent Auction.  Our goal is to raise enough money to waive the membership and registration fees for students and council members who may not otherwise be able to attend our Conference.

Marketing & Media Showcase

Ever wonder what other campuses are doing in the Marketing and Media arena? Come check out over 20 campuses submissions for this year’s 2008 Marketing and Media Showcase. New to WRGA this year the showcase will highlight materials from logo’s, t-shirts, to publications and much more. A panel of expert and celebrity judges skilled in the marketing and media arena will grade on levels of creativity, effectiveness, cost effectiveness, and aesthetics. Make sure to stop by the showcase to see this year’s winners and pick up some new ideas.
